Everyone who knows me, knows that I am not exactly the biggest fan of chocolate cake and highly critical when it comes to chocolate cake recipes. While I’ll eat and love any vanilla cake I am served, I am less likely to enjoy just any random chocolate cake. For me, chocolate cake has to be super moist and hast to have an intense flavor of real, good quality chocolate. Dust-dry cocoa powder cake is neither baked nor served in my kitchen. 🙂

Until my chocolate cake became what it is today, I had had to go through numerous Fail!-recipes and do a lot of fine tuning on my own recipe, but now this cake is pure perfection:

“Hunger Games” Nightlock Cupcake

In time for the premiere of the “Hunger Games – Mockingjay Part 1”, I want to share my first MovieMunchies -post with you.

But first things first, what are MovieMunchies ?

MovieMunchies  are a popular tradidtion in my family. Basically, it means that whenever you watch a movie or series you try to find snacks and munchies that go with the theme of or the food in the movie itself (bought, baked, cooked – whatever floats your boat). This may sound tricky and complicated, but in fact it is mostly very easy and fun!

Who hasn’t experienced the frustration of sitting in front of the TV or in the movie theater and watching the characters eat the tastiest things and all you would like to do in that moment is jump right in and join them!?! Well, this will never happen to you again, because now you will always have the perfect snack right at hand…

Regularly I will post suitable MovieMunchies -ideas and baking instructions for your next movie night. Maybe MovieMunchies will soon be a popular tradition among you, your friends and family as well.

The flavor of gingerbread combined with whiff of chocolate in one fluffy miniature cake with a topping that gives you the feeling of biting into a cloud – this is the Chocolate Gingerbread Cupcake with Meringue Frosting! Best served with a hot cup of cocoa in front of a fireplace…

Actually, in my family we have a strict No-Christmasdessert-Before-December rule, but theoretically these cupcakes are neither Christmas cookie nor  traditional Christmas cake, so I do make an excpetion and this cupcake is so worth it! 🙂

There are as many Vanilla Cupcake recipes as there are stars in the sky and surely everyone has his personal favorite, but today I want to share my fav recipe with you – Caution: This will be sweet! 🙂

Beforehand, I must admit that I am a huge fan of Peggy Porschen and that I derive many of my cupcake recipes from hers. In addition, this makes me a huge fan of using syrup to soak my cakes. Everyone of you must decide on his own whether or not you want to spend the extra time to make and use the syrup. I find that using syrup makes the difference between a decent and an over-the-top delcious cupcake, because there is not much worse than a boring, dust-dry cake.

My very first attempt at making cupcakes

Welcome to baketastic baking with Backdirndl,

I am Backdirndl (German for baking girl) and I have enjoyed baking all my life, but it only really got crazy in September 2013 – ever since then I officially belong to the Bakeholics Anonymous.

Joy and Sorrow equally derive from my passion for baking – Joy to see all my friends and family indulging themselves blissfully in my cakes and pies,     but Sorrow that my wallet just never seems to be able to satisfactorily finance all the equipment that is slowly but surely filling up my flat. 🙂

This blog shall inspire those who might just need a little last push, it shall provide recipes and instructions that taste wonderful and really work and it shall give the advice that I so often would have needed.
